the revolution will not be centralized

Hi All,

Excited to participate in H4R for the first time. I'm big into decentralization so my project will be to create an app that allows peer-to-peer communication over iOS using bluetooth and ad-hoc wireless connections. Similar to Firechat but also with the option to send files and push-to-talk. I chose iOS because of the multi-peer connectivity framework baked in to iOS 7. I think the push-to-talk will be the most difficult since the app will need to encode voice, save, and stream to the other peers. I'm not too familiar with objective-c so am looking for some iOS ninja to help. *cough* Dylan *cough* help *cough*

I'm also planning on debuting my mobile pirate radio side project I've been working on too. The night of H4R also happens to be Zombie Crawl...I'm planning a boombox party aka decentralized dance party aka DDP ^_^ I met Gary from DDP at burning man this year and he's the inspiration for the fiesta. We are taking off from the collective around 9PM'ish Saturday night and making a massive mobile party/dance scene throughout Reno and ending it at the skating rink area. Love for ya'll to join, bring boomboxes, props, and funky dance moves :-P

Look forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks!

Love it! Are you thinking iOS only or some hardware component? Firechat is cool but I also saw this product which is pretty interesting: http://www.gotenna.com/

1.6 mile range in the city. That's legit!

I was thinking iOS because I wanted to build on top of the multi-peer connectivity framework. The range is limited significantly in comparison to gotenna . 1.6 miles vs 300 feet >_< Gotenna's range even beats out LTE direct.

I like the idea of push-to-talk. Something simple like old school walkie talkies. An app that has use in close proximity like jobs sites, camping, etc

Definitely. Gotenna is limited to dropping a pin and texting because the radio can't handle voice that far. I want to see it happen!
